Default Glen of Rothes Trout and Coarse fishery

After the fierce weather conditions over the past few days,we are happy to say that no damage to report.Fishing at present is very much reliant on conditions on the daay and we update the website and facebook daily so as we can give anglers as much information as possible before they decide to do any travelling. Our Christmas Invite competition on 11th December is going ahead and we will be open as usual Saurday 10th onwards and from then it will be down to weather.Fishing on days when it has been ok has been very good and good returns from those brave enough to fish.Tigers and browns have been taken and returned along with rainbows which are in fine fettle and fighting well.Yellow and orange flies have been doing well and both intermediate and floating lines are required as fish move up and down through the day.
We do ask that in severe conditions to contact the numbers below before travelling rather than on the offchance that we are open. For your own benefit.

Fishery number is 01340 831888,mobiles 07510565778 or 07967466973. At this time of year it is always best to prebook rather than just turn up and find it closed.

Plans for next years season are now well under way which will improve facilities and fishing for visiting anglers and regulars.More will be announced later on this.As always, we try to give the best for your money as we can.

From all the staff at the fishery,we would like to wish everyone and your families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and hope to see you at the fishery where you will always be welcomed and enjoy a day with us.

A Happy new year to all.Fishing this year has been very good and even with the weather forecasts being out the anglers have enjoyed good sport.Varied depths and flies of lime and white working the best, along with red and Black.Tiger trout have been caught by Eddie Kane and Chris Johnstone had a nice Char which have been in the water for many years.Even the coarse loch has been fishing at times for anglers when conditions were suitable. This year we are holding the 2012 Stillwater Bank International Final which will select the Scottish Team to fish in Wales later in the year.Heats are open to any angler and our heat will be on the 9th June in the evening beginning at 6pm.The final will be held on the 8th July.

A new competition just announced is the World Masters Bank competition,Organised By Iain Barr. This will be as big as the Lexus competition and with big cash prizes. We have been asked to hold a heat which will be on April 1st and starts at 9.30am.Cost for entry is £15 and all candr. There will be goody bags available for all entrants and the final to be held at Elinor trout fishery in May and will be televised by Sky Tv like the fishomania finals.Names for this are being taken now at the fishery.

It is with great sadness that Brian, one of our partners at the fishery, died yesterday morning. He was a big part of the fishery for many years and will be very much missed by all who knew him.Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very sad time.

Thankfully before his long illness we have many years of good memories and fishing together, not only have we lost a Partner and friend ,but a Dad to us.

He will be very much missed by us all,but the memories are cherished by us.

Rest in peace my friend,we will miss you alot, but wont forget you.

RIP Brian Christie "The Black Prince" Queens Own Highlanders.and "Doc" to his friends.

We are ging to miss you Buddy. We wont forget you.

Aye well known as the Black prince Brian fished for a long time, in fact we had our last outing for just a couple of hours which was good as he was quite ill for the last 3 years.

We will certainly miss him and his humour as he was one of a kind.

He had plenty of stories to tell from the army.Always a good laugh and banter military style and never taken seriously no matter what.

February 13, 2012
Quite an up and down week both with fishing and the weather.Cold temperatures to slightly warmer, made fish hard to locate at depth.Anglers were managing on average 3 to 4 fish per session and some did exceed this.Paul Sharpe had 28 fishing a single okey dokey and had a nice Brownie of near 3lbs.Keith Doig of Perth had 15 using a similar method.Gary Gormley had a good fish of 5lb 6ozs and Craig Breetski had a surprise of 2lb carp on the fly. Most fish being caught are in fine fettle and bars of silver and giving a very good account of themselves. The coarse loch was frozen for most of the week, but Sunday saw some fish taken here, mainly Bream. As the weather gets better fishing should really improve but bites are very tentative and light tackle is working best. All ice away now.

MILLBUIES TROUT FISHERY.Preparations for opening on 23rd March are going well,Signs are up around the loch and bookings are doing well for the opening week.Only 4 boats will be used to start off,to give the lochs time to settle and get used to it being fished again. The other 2 boats will go in after a couple of weeks on opening. All enquiries and bookings through the Glen.
Plenty of competitions this year and details can be seen at the Glen fishery and on website.Details of both fisheries are updated regularly on our website.

For the campers out there,we can offer this at the Glen from this year starting in May.

Fishing has been alot better when the wind hasnt been howling and beetles have been working very well just below the surface. Business Partner Dave Fraser returned one of our larger fish we stocked last year and it was well over wintered and in top condition it was approx around the 18lb plus mark.We did stock 3 fish over 20 lbs last year and this must have been one but didnt wish to stress it and weigh it,but were happy with its condition and good to see its survived the winter.Tigers and also the Wild browns are coming to the fly well.

Coarse loch

We took delivery of more coarse fish today all silver fish and more due next week.We have only been waiting for these since november ,but better late than never and will give the coarse loch a good boost for anglers. After its best year, last year,we want to see it do well again and if it does plan to expand it to accomadate the fishing pleasure of our coarse anglers.

MillBuies Trout fishery

Stocking has begun ready for opening day and the final touches are being made.We have Blues ready to go in and fish should be well spread out and settled into their new home and not swimming around in pods. With the nights getting longer now and clocks going forward at the end of this month, the season should be off to a good start and we are looking forward to seeing rising fish around the lochs and it will be the topping on the cake here after being closed.Anyone who has or fishes here in the future I look forward to reading what you think about the lochs. We can only improve with your feedback. It does take time though to build up stocks so dont expect huge bags here to start off with although there will be plenty of fish there to catch and it wont be impossible.

Glen of Rothes trout fishery

A very good week of fishing with signs of spring making the fishing more comfortable in better weather and smaller flies working their charms on fish.Wind being the only deterrant but didnt stop good fishing and fish coming to the fly.Beetles did well and yellow dancers along with buzzers and also daddy long legs took fish.Tiger trout were around and Jim watt had 2 around 3lbs returned along with a nice Blue of about 6lbs,William Thompson had one at about the same size, jamie Hay had a brownie of 2lbs,Grahme Taylor had a Brownie of 3lb 8ozs approx,Jim Walker a 4lb rainbow and Nicky Bremner a 3lb 8oz rainbow.Average per angler was upto around 7/8 fish each.Fish are high in the water now and floating lines are doing best and any deeper than the top layer you will be going passed the fish.Fish which have been caught are fighting well and in top condition and have really overwintered very well.

Coarse loch:- The fishing improved this week and anglers had some decent sport with the right bait.Maggot did very well and Nicky Hone had a good day with ide, bream, carp and a golden orfe.Richard Salt had ide and roach as did Toby Box which is good to see silver fish feeding well.Heavy groundbaiting is not required here and a whole tin of sweetcorn in one go will not improve anyones chances of getting fish rather the opposite.Forget what you see on the tv and fish to the water itself and its surroundings.Natural baits are far better on this water. With the weather conditions the way they are now some good fishing could be had here.

Millbuies trout fishery :- Only a few more days till at last we open for fishing and it cant come sooner for many anglers who have missed the enchantment of the lochs. For this season we are asking all anglers that Blues and any browns which are wild anyway,to be returned.Their should be plenty of good sport by these beautifull fish and are a pleasure to return to fight another day.A few early mornings and evening walks around the lochs when all is quiet is a pleasure with the spring birds singing and Owls hooting and the woodpecker tapping away especially when its dark would give most an eerie chill, but these lochs have a magical and calming air surrounding them and once fished you can only be captured by total respect for the water which is something we wish to encourage. We hope to give anglers many hours of pleasure and sport here
