Can tell you about a couple in the ballyclare/ballymena area...

Tildarg: decent fishery but a couple of years since i've been there...
Kilgad: nice wee set up, fairly cheap and a decent amount of nice fish in the water, not massive but good for bank fishing (if you can avoid the trees!!!)
Straid: not been, but under new management and reports seem quite good.
Trout and about, green road ballyclare: the ponds at the back of the old mill, newly opened, they have put a lot of work into it. not a big place by any stretch of the imagination, good quality fighting fish with some monsters in there too, owner is a nice bloke who will put you on the method if you ask...

Moorbrook lodge has to be one of the best I've fished. If your a total novice then go to Temple Springs near Garvagh, it's a great place for a beginner.

A pal and I were based on the Bann last week but the roach didn`t want to come and play so we looked for a trout place. A few calls made and a pal suggested Springvale Fishery on the B181 as you go from Magharafelt towards The Loup. Its well signed although they are placed a bit high up the telegraph poles!

It`s a newish placewith 2 islands, both within casting range and a good clean footpath all round. I would not describe the fishing as too difficult, but then looking at the returns book we could just have had a LUCKY SPELL. At £10 a day for catch and release I call it good good value. I had a chap withme who is a top flight coarse match angler and he soon got the hang of casting and was among the fish including one of 7lb 1oz and a larger one spat the hook out.

The bossman, Jason, is very friendly making free teas and coffees at regular intervals. If you can face cheeseburgers they are also available, twice the size of the market leaders stuff and half the prices. Eat them in the brick built lodge with coal fire. We enjoyed it so much we went back for some more 2 days later.

12ft deep near the lodge and 6ft at the other end the fish take at all levels but dries werte my favourites. Fish are clean and fit with good tails. They don`t know when to give up. Highly recommended, I just wish it was nearer Oxford!!!!
