Default Hello from a Yankee in Yorkshire

Hi ladies and gents,

New to the forum. I've lurked a little while and thought I'd properly introduce myself. I'm from Pennsylvania oringinally but I'm living in east yorkshire for the past 3 years.

Obviously I fly fish, but I'll use any technique that I'm in the mood for including floats (centerpin and levelwind), spinning, and bait. Used to fish primarily trout, steelhead, carp, and freshwater bass. Back in the US I fished a lot (almost 250 days one year) though not as much since we moved. I tie my own flies and roll my own rods. I used to sell rods as a side business and did mostly fly rods with a fair number of bass and steelhead rods for variety.

Over here I'm mainly fishing the chalkstreams for greyling and trout. We used to fish the Test for greyling 2-3 times a year when my wife lived down south. I've got Mulberry Whin just 30 minutes away so I've fished it a few times. I'd like to get up to the Dales and start exploring, I just haven't had the time to do it.

I'm also active on a fair number of other forums so you'll see my screen name elsewhere too.

Thanks,
Rick

Rick

Welcome to Gods Country...

I live just up the coast from you at Scarborough. Explore the Dales by all means but dont neglect the waters between the coast and York. I fish several of the vale of York rivers and becks and they are well worth your attention. There are some real delights there, If you do require any info then ask away...

Hi there

Casts by fly / Flyfisher lady

I am a member of the Pickering Fishery Association...

Welcome to Pickering Fishery Association

This is excellent for the small becks and the couple of lakes

I am also in Scalby beck angling club at Scarborough , which is 5 mins from my house..Its excellent for the sea trout alone but does offer some interesting wild brown fishing but suffers terribly in times of drought

Brown Trout | Sea Trout | Game Fishing | Scarborough | Home

I also fish the River Rye and the Dove near Helmsley as part of a syndicate. They are both beautiful stretches in fact I posted some pics of the Rye quite recently. If you search back through my posts..

Have a look at the above and if you are interested you would be welcome as a guest to come and see for yourself...

Hi Polly,

Yes, it is really nice. This time of year the evening ticket is a great buy since you can fish from 4-10:30 or so. Lots of fish, plenty of fight in all of them. I was there ~2 weeks ago and got 8 plus a pike.

In fact, it looks like you were there 2 days after me. I was there on the 20th of June.

Thanks
Rick

The Pickering club sounds really interesting. Thanks so much for pointing me to it. The membership application seems a bit cryptic aswell. I'll read it all a bit more carefully.
@ Casts.

I'm hoping to get up there in the next couple of weeks and probably do a post work special next Monday. I need to hang on til payday which is Friday.

It is very windy there though, but when it is still, it's probably my favourite chalkstream.

So much wildlife there.

Polly
