O.K. here goes , Just turned 50 and not cast a line in over ten years ,after twenty plus years of coarse angling and just not enjoying it anymore i decided to ask my wife for a fly fishing beginners lesson for my birthday and although i didnt catch anything it was all i had hoped for and more. But goodness the casting is going to take a while , luckily i have a field at the side of the house to go practice on , so if anyone can recommed any west yorks fisheries in the Pontefract are please let me know as i cant just keep catching rabbits on the field.

Welcome to the forum sparkieb. Can't help you with fisheries near Pontefract (or Rabbits) but there's a lot of good water in Yorkshire.

My wife got me into fly-fishing with a Birthday present lesson. I haven't looked back, but she has her reservations.

Welcome sparkieb, my geography stinks but if you can get there, you could do a lot worse than Kilnsey trout fishery near grassington. Small shallow lakes which are fishable from somewhere whatever the wind is doing. Absolutely rammed full with good quality fish, a great starting place. Just recently got my dad into it at 64 and he loves it, go quite regularly. PM me if your going sometime and i'll share some very limited knowledge if im about.
