Default Hello from the Foyle Area.

mmm these are like the answering machine of forums. Never know what to say.

New to fly fishing and started about 3 weeks ago after a return to fishing, in general, last year. Started fly tying last week and so far I have spent far to much money on a load of fluff, feathers and little brass things. I can no longer justify fishing, to the better half, as being a way to get "free" food :? .

Anyway joined this forum in search of advice and to allow me to emerse myself in fishing even when I'm nowhere near the water. Also hoping that as I learn I can pass on little nuggets of info to those that follow.

Luckily she is quite supportive of my major vices (excuse the pun). Be it gaming or fishing. She figures it's nicer that I'm around the house tying flies and not drinking my money.

Shame the real good weather has come after a period of pretty nice weather on the whole. Apart from the cold winter there has been very little rainfall of any note in my area for over 6 weeks. Low waters are not good news. Espeacially for the Salmon and Sea trout.

I hope to G. Just waiting now on my membership to Omagh Anglers to clear and open up some new stretches of water to me. I am stuck fishing free waters at the mo and there isn't that much of it and most of what there is is over fished.

To be honest it's been pretty poor for me. Restricted on which waters I can access until I get confirmation about club membership and then I need to pay for that as well!) Not much water either and a massive fish kill on one of the major water ways isn't going to make it any better. Hopefully a wee bit of decent rain and better water access will combine to make this a decent season for my first year on the fly.

I hear the Braid over this end had a fish kill,...where else was hit??.....low water seems to be bad time for rivers,...makes you wonder what valves get opened into rivers when the floads come.

I heard the kill here involved pure negligence. Not deliberate act but an overflow due to a lapse of concentration. Apparently the guy went in for a cup of tea and forgot about what he was doing.

It's going to be one expensive cup of tea.

On a more positive note (for me anyway) I can finally fish more water thanks to the postman.

Great stuff....seems to be these overflows just happen to lead to fresh river water....which river was it??
