Default Hello from Somerset

Just a quick introduction. I haven't fished for almost 20 years now, but was a keen fly fisherman (off and on) back home in Fife, fishing mainly the Eden, Devon and occasionally Loch Leven, plus some others. Now living in Somerset.

Keen to take it up again, and just beginning to sort myself out, and trying to work out if I will ever actually find the time.

I've never been very interested in catching big fish or large numbers of fish, just a couple for the pot from a river in a nice location.

I am, however, very interested in being able to "reliably" catch fish, and that is the challenge.

Graham

Hi Graham, Welcome to the forum. You'll find loads of information on here, a fair amount of debate on tackle, tactics etc.. enjoy

Thanks Eddie, I have been lurking here for a week or so now, and have indeed found it an extremely useful place.

Welcome to the forum.
I also live in Somerset and there is some great fishing to be had.
Plenty of rivers but most of the fish are small and C&R is encouraged.
Some great stillwaters though in superb locations that offer great fishing and tasty fish.
Clatworthy and Hawkridge are two of my favourites but there is also Wimbleball and Sutton Bingham.

Thanks "T", there does seem to be a few places around. The R Chew is nearest to me, but around Exmoor is probably more suited to my idea of where I would like to fish.

If you haven't already, have a look here, Westcountry Angling Passport - Flexible day permits, for quality game and coarse fishing in Cornwall and Devon, and welcome to the forum.

For the River Chew, there are these fine people. http://knowleangling.co.uk/

Thanks Brownsville, in fact I bought a copy of a guide to angling in the South West and had discovered the passport and Knowle angling.

I was thinking about Keynsham Angling Association as they seem to have the stretch of the Chew I "almost" drive past on the way to work, but Knowle Angling seem to have a better choice of venues.
