Default Hi

Hi folks, just thought i would introduce myself....A wee bit about myself....60 years old, i am a health physics surveyor, within the nuclear industry....a time served woodworker/boatbuilder by trade.....and was also, for many years, a coal miner.

I built my own boat, and earned my living for a year or two at the 'creels'...and boats in any form, will alaways remain, a 'passion' for me.

I used to be a very keen trout fly fisherman [albeit, not a very good one] but have only very recently got back into the 'fishing game'.

At the start of this year i took an interest in 'salmon' fishing, and am really enjoying it......up till now, a few 'kelts' and still to catch my first 'fresh' fish, which has really re-ignited my love for fly fishing in general.....hence joining the forum.

I live in Caithness...with access to all the 'far north' rivers.....as well as Loch's like......Watten, Heilan, St Johns, Calder etc, all being within a stones throw from the hoose.

I fully realise that during the many years that i was out of fishing, that tackle/methods have changed a great deal....so i am here to learn...and maybe just be able to contribute to the forum, now and then.

Thank you

Brian

Welcome1
I am guessing you are a dounreay man?
I have a uncle in Thurso and i have fished Heilen, watten etc.
I love Caithness, you are a lucky man.
I would not be to bothered about changeing your ways, not that much has changed but the tackle companies and magazines would not agree.

All the best

Munro

Yep...a Dounreay man.....i moved to the far north well over 20 years ago...and to be honest, was too busy, earning a 'crust' to really think about 'pleasure' type fishing....although it was all here around me.......strange, when i lived in the 'lowlands'....i used to dream of fishing places, that now surrounds me......but hopefully, with the good Lord's help, family now up and flown the coop.....i now might be able to take advantage of it.

You have probably got the most unmolested salmon, sea trout, brown trout and sea fishing in the UK on your door step.
Probably a good thing that it is such a long drive away for most people.

All the best.
