Default Hi from Cornwall.

Hey,

I'm very new to fly fishing, buying some kit tomorrow and hoping to have a session at Tree Meadow possibly this weekend.
I have had some practice with a friends setup, that is all, so should be interesting.

I have been sea & coarse fishing on and off for 25 years altogether, although during the past 7 have done hardly any at all.

So that's me - another newbie!

Take it easy,

-Neil

Hi Mike.

I live in Falmouth, and I am just after a very basic setup to see how I get on with it.
Prob get a Shakespeare Odyssey, although someone pointed me in the direction of a 'Vision' kit on ebay.
I'll prefer not to use ebay, so going to pop into a couple of shops today, there is a good one in Helston if I remember correctly, and someone said one in Redruth(?) Maybe even Trago's!

I think I am correct in saying I am after a 8.5 - 9.5ft #5-6.

Yes Trago are doing the odyssey for 17quid I bought one from Liskard branch for the grand son, their reels are cheap as well.
If looking on E-bay check out the spring creek rods and see if you can get one for around £20, of late that's been my go to rod for a lot of my fishing.
Get a grays grxi reel and spools and your a good way there.
Check john out at Tree meadow for this.
Good luck
Mike

Hi
I agree with the above except the Greys GRXi reel. There are others (ie BFR, Cortland, Snowbee or Vision) that are far superior.

Welcome Neil

Treemeadow is a good litle fishery.I do very little stillwater fly fishing, but enjoyed a couple of great days in march, down there, before the rivers opened.

If you are new to it all, when you get down there,a chap called pete looks after the fishing,he is very helpful and a nice fellow.

Enjoy

welcome
rod size/weight is the average...i.e....if you are only having one rod for river...like myself..
...but not heard good things about the reel tho..... dont spend too much on tackle esp. reel!!! you dont use it !!!not like sea fishing!!!! a £20 reel will be fine, up to £80 rod.....Airflow Delta xt meant to be good for £40!!! either fishtec or glasgow angling have them on special offer, and were tested by Salmon & Trout mag as best rod under £150, and that was when the cost was £80!!

---------- Post added at 09:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:07 PM ----------

..or it might be called Delta Classic.....
the fishing line is important , and dont skimp on the budget as is the most important part..... they range from £10-£60ish.......yep, for the fishing line.....

Hi and thanks for the replies.

I got myself an Odyssey (9ft #6/7) and reel, was hoping to get out this weekend but does not look like it is going to happen now, so I'm off over the field to practice casting.

Should be fun.......
