Default Fly Fishing Midlands

Hi everyone, I'm a new member to this site but have been fly fishing for 42 years. I'm originally from Durham and have fished the sea trout rich rivers such as the River Wear and the Tweed around the Coldstream area. I now live in the fly fishing wasteland that is Stoke-on-trent. Please reply if you have any information on unknown local waters or are interested in trips elsewhere.

Errrr... fly fishing wasteland You are right smack next door to some excellent fly fishing in Staffs and Derbyshire:

Dove, manifold, Derwent, Wye, Churnet.

Start by looking on the Rivers section for Leek and District, and the Peak Passport scheme.

Email me if you want further details.

Stoke, oh dear, you have my sympathies. Certainly is a wasteland, but thankfully has some decent fishing around it heading up into the Peaks as already mentioned. Other than Peak Passport scheme though there is not that much river fly fishing available on day ticket and it tends to be fairly pricey day ticket too. Ressie-wise, there's also Carsington, very scenic for a ressie. As well as fly only rivers clubs like Leek & District there are also some other clubs with mixed fly and coarse fishing on rivers and stillwaters like Burslem Izaak Walton, Fenton, Derby Railway Angling Club and Derby County Angling Club - a bit of googling on those will give you some ideas

Welcome aboard. Wish I was nearer, but you're 40 miles from me-would love to get started river fishing, but no one I know does it. Keep us posted on how you do.

I fish the Dove and have fished the Derwent and The Severn, Dee, Bala, and Dane.
It's just that I have to travel and I had great fishing on my doorstep in Durham.

Your lot look like the best choice. I joined Hanley club but their stretch of the Dove is hammered by maggot fishers grrrr.

Pity cos I had a chub of 4.5lbs, and two trout totalling 5.5lbs in one night on there.
