Default Hi from a german student new to Edinburgh

Hi all,

after reading this forum for quite a while, I wanted to participate aswell.

My name is Frank, I am a german student at the University of Edinburgh Business School.
I just moved to Scotland and tomorrow my courses are about to start.

So what about my fly fishing. I love to fly fish and that's what I am living for. I love fishing for trout, carp, danube salmon and many exotic species. My absolute favourite destinations are New Zealand and Bosnia Hercegovina and very soon (I hope so) Scotland.

So if you have any advice for me on fishing the Edinburgh region I would be glad to hear it. I actually live near the Union Canal, so any tipps on that venue would be great.

Cheers,

Frank

Welcome to Edinburgh, from another resident.

Englander is the man to speak to here about the Union Canal, I think. There seems to be pike, perch and tench in there.

You've got till the end of the month to fish for small trout on the Water of Leith - the small river that runs through the city centre. Permits are free from tackle shops and you can probably find some info on it by using the "google search fly fishing forums" below.

And I here there are carp in Duddingston Loch (big ones too) though casting a fly to them could be difficult. Last I heard, fishing was free but you need permission from the Park Ranger's office which I think is near the Parliament building. Never fished there so I could be completely wrong!

Hope you enjoy your time here.

Neil

Hi all,

many thanks for your warm welcome.

Today I got my permit for the Water of Leith from the Orvis Store in Edinburgh.

I will see how this works out for me.

Cheers,

Frank
