Default First day / last day??

Had my first day with the rod this morning. Could've been the last. When I was getting my kit ready last night, I noticed that part of the rod had splintered. Never mind, managed to bodge it and got up early this morning and headed to Clewedog full of optimism...

Four casts in and disaster struck. The rod snapped again and that was that. It was starter kit that my local shop had put together for me. I managed to slink away before anyone noticed and swore that was it. No more.

Luckily, after getting things in perspective, bought a new rod from Glasgow angling Centre. Unfortunately, it'll be two weeks before I can get out again.

Any other first day disasters??

Welcome aboard. Not exactly a great start to fly fishing, but that's the "breaks". Sorry for the pun. I also have a starter rod that didn't splinter though it would probably be better if it did-it keeps coming apart at the joints. Any clever person on the forum know how I can stop the rod doing this?
