Default Rutland novice

Actually, novice is a bit strong for me...

Mark is the name, 37yo and I live in Rutland a couple of miles from Rutland Water.

Been coarse fishing 30+ years, including traditional centrepin trotting etc, but I have only now decided to give fly fishing a bash

Fishing is a big part of my life as I am a tackle seller, but I don't sell fly and I know chuff all about it!

I think I must be looking for some fishing that is different to my day job

Anyway, just got all my kit today, all used, but half decent (I think!) so I shall be hitting the fields and trying to cast asap

I dare say you will see me around looking for tips from now on, its a whole new world to me

Welcome Mark. We're all novices to a point and always learning. Plenty of good advice on here-just ask.

The Bank's are difficult at the moment, unless you fish very early morning or last light...

i'd concentrate on the following area's.....

1 - Blue pipes to the Dam

2 - East Creek to Lodge

3 - Stockie Bay Point

That's about it...if the wind is wrong you'll struggle....

last thing or first thing the following has been working :-
Floating line with Red holo Crunchers on the droppers and a small eyed Cat Booby or Floating Fry/suspender minkie on the point..fish ultra slow figure of 8.

Or during the day (10am - 6pm)..crunchers on a floater with orange blob or black & green tadpole on point...again figure of 8 back with the odd long pull or two..

Failing that ...get a boat...
