Default Friendly Introduction

Quick introduction:

100% new to fly fishing. Just happened to purchase a Sage 960 z-axis on one heck of a sale. So, now I'm in the process of properly outfitting her before learning this new form of fishing. I've been having difficulty balancing the light weight of the rod with the limited selection of reels here in Fargo ND. If anyone has any recommendations of reels it would be most appreciated! (need a good drag - fish for pike/bass/panfish - and cost under 250) - or where would I post such a question?

Otherwise, I'm very glad to have come across such an active and informative forum! I hope to learn the sport and contribute very soon!

Thanks!

Slewwater

Hi Slewwater and welcome to the forum.
Nice rod to pick up in a sale

Whilst you will get loads of advice on this forum and we have more than a few members from the States, you could also try the sister forum in the states - flyforums.com where no doubt you will get advice more specific for the States. You should be able to use your screename and password to login

250 £s or $s will get you a very nice reel indeed. Sunkistbob on here sells some very nice ones, but postage may be an issue.

Your question could be posted in "Tackle Talk" but might be more visible in General Discussion.

The best money that you can spend is to go and get a casting lesson or two from a qualified professional and get his/her advice on tackle. In the absence of an experienced friend, a days guided fishing might also be money well spent and will save a lot of frustration.

Tight lines.

Welcome to an american from a american living in northwest england. I know Fargo well and did lots of fly fishing in eastern South Dakota where I was mentored on largemouth bass, crappies, perch and bluegills. Bought some nice gear at Cabelas in Mitchell, SD last summer so it may pay to look them up on the net as they have a lovely selection of reels. Cabelas that is as there must be one in ND.
