Hi Forum members! Was attracted to fly fishing @14 yrs old when this cute girl from Tennesse had me in a trance. Her artful presentation of a fly along with her smile and free lessons had me drop the ultra-lite reel and rod like it was taboo. Since that day, began tying, fly fishing and a profession as a Conservation Office/Game Warden. I was fortunate enough to have the world famous Nipigon River(world record brook trout 1914) in my patrol area. Protecting the redds, the breeding stock was a passion of mine. Catch and release became law with cooperation of all anglers thanks to our biologist Rob Swainson(Ministry of Natural Resources-Nipigon Ontario Canada). Look forward to learning every time I am on the forum.

Hi Rusty. Welcome to someone living on the far side of the pond from someone born there, but now living in northwest england. Please let us know what the fly fishing is like in Ontario as I've only once been there and that was in 1960 and I wasn't fishing then? Byron T

Wow, thanks for the welcome aboard from all of you! I have found the forum saves millions of hours off of google, because it is all right here. I will contribute where I can and thanks for the hospitality across the pond! If you need any info etc from here, I will find it or find the answer/contact for you as best I can.

Sincerely,

Hi Byron, Unfortunately, I haven't been out this year to my old haunts due to a permanent disability situation and just got out of a wheel chair in June. Did drive to one of my favorite spots near Elora Ont, and a new bridge was there!...was a deadend road. Luckily stiff laws and habitat protection was successful as little harm was seen. Trout were rising and a fellow was doing well with the Woolly ******. (No kill and barbless zone). I actually just purchased an Anvil vise and it is awesome!. Lucked out on a recent purchase of a UK Hardy Angel 5/6reel and a Marksman rod. It is the "carrot stick" I need to get mobile again. Otherwise, right now after a real rainy spring, we are going through a dry spell and levels are dropping considerably. Northern Ontario is burning up 36 project fires. If you are coming over to Ontario, fish let me know.
Take Care,
RustyR

Welcome to the Fora! By that one last line it sounds like you've fished the 'fly only' section of the North Umpqua here in Oregon. Running joke, and it's not, is walk up to the river and toss yourself in and get the first dunking of the day behind you.
