Default Hello all!

Just joined the forum and would like to say hello. I have been fishing all my life and flyfishing for the last 34 years. I have recently retired and I like to fly fish for trout, grayling, salmon, sea-trout and bass in hill lochs, rivers, reservoirs and the sea. I also like to float-tube for wild brownies whenever possible. The only type of fly fishing I don't really do is small stillwaters, but each to his own!

Liverpool, but do most of my fishing, game and sea, in North Wales.

Thumbs up Re: Hello all!

Add my warm welcome to the Fora. Just be careful what you hear from these UK Guys, "we few, we precious few" 'Murican's know it all. You just have to ask.

Kidding aside, this really is an excellent forum as is its American Coo-Sin. Same log in info for both; many of the folks post in both places.

Certainly think we can learn a lot from you Yanks about river fishing, but we seem to be ahead on the stillwater stuff. What I like about the US is the ability to be innovative without worrying about looking stupid! I watched a programme about fly fishing high altitude lakes in Utah for big cutthroats. Each angler carried an aluminium stepladder. They waded out to the absolute limit of their chest waders, planted the ladder and climbed up it to fish - priceless

It could only happen in America.

Well I don't know about 'just here,' but at Pyramid Lake that's what it takes. Personally haven't fished there but have talked to several folks who have. Area is 'high Desert' and the average temperature swing can easily be 40 to 50 degrees per day. When the sun sets the heat cap goes off and up comes the wind. Easy to get 4-6 foot 'roller waves' on the lake coming into your face.

Without the ladder it's 'game over.' Here's a taste of how it works:
