Default Drifting Back

Hello there, As the heading says I'm drifting back into Fly Fishing after a gap of about 20 years, I started fishing when I was 7, 46 years ago, I've fished for many species using most methods, basically I just like catching Big Fish, Still water fly fishing has become a passion over the last two years, it started when diabetes messed my legs up and I found it easier to carry a few ounces of carbon and a bag of bits than cart a barrow full of Barbel gear up and down the Trent's dodgy banks. I'm looking forward to playing catch up on all the latest gear and info, and perhaps finding a few new places to wet a line in 2011. Dave R... Chesterfield/Derbyshire

Welcome! I'm a year and a bit back after a break of 15 years or so.

Do you deliberately target big fish? Or do you just like it when they come along?

I definitely target the bigger fish, whether it be Carp, Barbel, Tench, Chub or Trout, When the legs worked OK I walked miles looking for that special fish, this year I'm looking to get a personal best Tench and Brownie, to do that I've got to better 6lb for both species which isn't an unreachable target nowdays, I've just thrown a goodly sum at a brand new caravan and the Trout and Tench gear have already got a nice little corner reserved, and two weeks in Scotland are on the cards for my birthday in August, and the sites near Rutland and Grafham are programed into SWMBO's travel program Click the image to open in full size.

Hello Dave and welcome aboard. If you ever find yourself anywhere near the Cotswolds and have your Tench gear with you, our local lake will provide you with a pb Tench. Every one I've seen is 7-10lb. You are welcome to come and have a chuck.

Chris

Welcome to the forum Dave,

I hope you do ok in Scotland for you birthday, I'm having a week there for spring bank & the last 2 weeks in August

We stay on a ex CL site near Melrose, its next to the Tweed, I fish it from Dryburgh down to Lower Mertoun

Its great to be able to walk down for the early morning rise & back to the caravan when I get the text, "breakfasts ready"

tight lines, Paul

Oh & I also pop over & fish the Clyde when the mackerel come in
