Default An Englishman in Scotland...

...And boy, don't I know it sometimes!
Been posting on the forum for a short while now but never got 'round to introducing myself properly, so here goes.
I'm a Lancastrian who came north in search of work ten years ago, and settled on the south side of Glasgow with my wife and (now) 11-year-old twins (one of each).
I only started fly fishing late August/early September after watching a guy fly fishing from a kayak on a private lake in the Forest of Bowland in Lancashire while we were camping.
I thought it looked like a terrific way to spend a day... and now I'm completely hooked.
The learning curve is pretty steep, especially if you're not experienced in any form of angling (I've also started occasional coarse/float fishing with my boy), but for me the learning is as much fun as the doing, and I just love being out in the fresh air all day, no matter what the weather's doing (Billy Connolly is right when he says there's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing).
To me a bad day out fishing is still better than a good day in the office (I'm a production journalist at the Daily Record).
Anyway, I hope over the coming years to be able to contribute sensibly to these great forums, as I've already learned an awful lot myself from the members.
Tight lines everyone,
Steve

Cheers Bruce1 - it's not too bad unless there's rugby or football on, and I've got broad shoulders. I'm a Man Utd fan who spent ten years working in Liverpool, so I'm used to being a target!
As for fly fishing, I'm well and truly hooked after just a few months, although I'm hugely frustrated right now having broken the tip off my rod in a moment of stupidity last week
I'm quite lucky, though, because there are loads of really good stillwater fisheries within half an hour of me, and next spring I plan on doing some river/stream fishing too, so I'll be scouring the forums for tips and advice.
Thanks for the welcome - I was starting to feel a bit uncomfortable after 100-plus views and not one comment!
Tight lines,
Steve

Welcome to behind the Porridge Curtain.
As you will no doubt learn there are many Scots on here, and loads of them within half an hour of you.
Loads of opportunity to meet up here, with our forum days, and the GAC weekends bring a lot of us together.
I am pretty sure we can organise a wee outing if you fancy it.

All the best to you and yours,
Graham

Thanks for the welcome guys, it's good to be a member of the forums.
As for joining the days out with the locals up here in/around Glesga, I'm definitely up for that - by next season I'll hopefully have stopped hooking myself in the back of my jacket and won't feel such a gormless newbie

You should be fine Steve .......... just start talking about cricket and they will all fall asleep. The good thing is your name isn't Edward, Henry, Oliver or Margret .... there are problems with other bearers of those names.

Not with the ancient Margaret she was a saint!
It's the tory one we all hate.
