Default Glad to have found you all

Hello everyone,
The names Robin, i live in the French alps in a little village called Pelvoux. Lucky enough to work (a little) mainly from home as a web usability consultant but i'm usually back to the UK for work once a month.

Learned to fish on the Crammer in Devizes before starting to match fish at 12 on the local lakes and canals. At 13 i won the Devizes youth and my one and only open match at Lavington lakes before finding girls and putting the rods and poles in the cupboard.. For a year until my brother-in-law took me fly fishing for the first time. Then fly fished sporadically for the next ten years while got through the trials of adolescence and early adulthood.

Four years ago i was lucky to make the acquaintance of a lad my age who's parents own a stretch of the Test and the Dever at Newton Stacy. One hazy day, post party, his cousin Jessie James(now a Gillie on the Tay and guide for Roxtons), finding i was a man of the fly, took me down to the Test. We caught big stocked browns and my passion for fishing was kindled anew.

Two years later after watching Atlantic Salmon - a life on the edge, Jessie, another friend, Lee and i drove my renault 5, stacked to the roof with fishing equipment and camping gear to the isle of Lewis to catch our first salmon.
We camped behind a hedge in bog in the pissing rain for a week and all caught our first fish, thanks largely to Alan Shepard of Sportfish, who recognized me when i stopped to watch him land and release a fish. Hearing of our fruitless 3 days and probably pitying our ignorance, gave me a heavy brass tube and a little advice. Thanks again Alan.

I gave since been lucky enough to catch wild browns and rainbows in New Zealand, sea trout form the Towy, malin and bonefish in Cuba and lots of Test stocked and wild browns and grayling and my favorite, little wild Devonshire browns.

Salmon however have not been as accommodating. Despite spending lots of my hard earned on fishing the Spey, Lochy and Avon (arn), i have yet to catch another since the two from Stornoway.

So, now that i have steady work and life has calmed, i am going to devote myself to becoming one of the 10% who catch 90%.. Hopefully learning all i can from this forum and any publications i can get my hands on and meeting some other fishermen/women wishing to share my journey towards "angling perfection". -Or maybe some who are nearly there and willing to speed up my progression...

Planning to fish Slovenia, New Zealand again and maybe Patagonia or Russia (all on the cheap if poss) in the next couple of years as well as Scotland, England and Wales for the rest of my life.

Anyone who fancies a fly fishing adventure or even a weeks house exchange-nice apartment in the Ecrins national park, 800m from a small ski resort, for somewhere near some good fishing, please get in touch.

I like wild fish from rivers in beautiful places and catch and release-except maybe the odd fresh salmon if my quest is fruitful. oh yeah and i'm **** at entomology.

Phew..sorry that turned into more of an auto-biography than an introduction.

Hope i haven't bored you.

any advice welcome

Best,

Loxley.

Yes Marharg, i got it, i was just lacking a witty retort despite carrying my name for 28 years... Thank you and all for the welcome.

At the moment I'm just using the forum to learn but hopefully i'll be able to give something back when the season begins again here in France and when i make it back to the Uk to fish.

Next planned outing is the Grayling on the Test in November so i'll try writing a report.

Best

Robin
