Default Fishing in the highlands

Hi folks,

Is anyone intrested going for a trip to the scottish highlands (between fort william and malliag) for trout, sea trout and salmon fishing?

The fishing is available on a 2 mile long river and a 8 mile long loch. The River is the River Ailort and the loch, loch Eilt.

the loch is full of wild brownie with an average weight of half a pound, also salmon and sea trout are also caught. there are two boats available.

The river is a spate river. last year it was very underfished but still managed over 60 fish. 1 reaching 30lbs and 2 over 20lbs

For the use of the boats and fishing for a day plus the service of a ghille it is available for 25 pounds a day per rod with sometimes four rods being available. It is available for as many days as you like.

For any more info pls PM me.

Regards
Tom

Well just to report, I spent Tuesday afternoon on the Loch with ghillie Archie. He picked up myself and my girlfriend and took us out on the loch in a boat and seemed to know all the likely spots.. it wasn't too long before my new rod was christened with a fiesty wee brownie. Plenty more came during the afternoon (though not all made it into the boat!) along with a couple of wee sea trout. Fish of the day was a lovely brownie of about 3/4 of a pound which took one of Archie's flies resembling a Peter Ross.

All in all a great day's fishing and a great price, I would recommend to anyone visiting the Fortwilliam area looking for wild brown trout fishing I had hoped to try for sea trout/salmon in the river but the level was a bit on the low side.

I thank Tom for bringing this access opportunity to out attention.

Until the opening of the Fish farm at the mouth of the River,This used to be 1 of the most Exclusive/Prolific sea trout lochs in Britain.
Now that the runs of sea trout are decimated, you can get on to the river /loch,so I suppose we should be thankfull for this access, but it's only because the High price rods have moved on. but It is a lovely trout water.and I would recommend it to all at this price,And you may just manage a Seatrout/Salmon that has managed against the odds to survive the sea lice awaiting them, When as smolts they 1st run to the sea.

Jim

I've always been interested in fishing the Ailort and Loch Eilt but thought maybe the permits would be too highly priced due to it's former glory before the fish farms arrived at the mouth of the river Ailort and many other rivers in North West Scotland.

Loch Eilt is in a lovely setting for some Brown Trout fishing.

Jim, I can only praise Archie my guide and for £25 all in including guide and boat I was very happy. Also, out of the dozen or so wee fish I caught there were two small silver sea trout and Archie mentioned a 30lb salmon last season, so maybe there is a glimmer of hope for the migratories.

Quite right too Jim.. let us know how you get on. I inadvertantly poached Eilt many years ago, when one assumed all Scottish Lochs were there for the fishing.. freemans like Got chased off quick-smart by some posh bloke with blunderbuss We clambered into car with rods and bums poking out the window and in his general direction.. he didn't manage to get a shot off though.. the burning rubber saw to that
A legendary loch with stunning scenery... get in there Jim

Here's a few pics from my visit. Plenty of brownies and even the steam train from Harry Potter. Excuse my Dame Edna polarised sunnies..
