More on Lower Crathes:
The Lower Crathes/West Durris beat on the Dee is the very best beat on the river. It is predominantly fished from both banks on the Lower Dee below Banchory. Lower Crathes comprises the left bank from two thirds of a mile above Durris Bridge to one mile below with the West Durris beat occupying the right bank from one and a half miles above the bridge to one mile below.
All pools are readily fished from the bank or are easily waded. The Upper Bridge and Birkenbaud are sometimes fished from a boat.
One fishing hut on the Lower Crathes side serves the beat. The hut has a wood burning stove, w.c. and telephone. Additionally there are three shelters for the use of fishers and the hut, shelters and fishing areas as a whole are easily accessible by car.
The beat operates a catch and release only scheme, where each rod catching and releasing all salmon.
We have been around the Lower Crathes for a decade now and offer only prime time fishing. Availabilities are few and far between and we could sell the beat ten times over if it were possible! The catch is predominantly mws’salmon , averaging 12 pounds, and fish up to 30 pounds are always a possibility. Anglers stay at various, excellent, hotels and bed and breakfast’s in the area. Please take note that only a guide is included in the price.
