Thumbs down

I agree, a bit steep fpr a days angling, only for the posh club, you would have two patagonia trips for 5 days in Iceland!!

It's no joke

Salmon fishing in Iceland is private and in high demand from the locals and UK anglers as well. I tried to book a guy in last July at short notice and every Salmon beat in Iceland was booked out!! There are parts of Iceland that are quite reasonably priced. You can fish the lakes for char and brown trout for £70 for a yearly license.

Most of clients aren't millionaires either. I have put together a variety of destinations, particularly bonefish trips that come in under a thousand pounds for the week and the hosted trips to New Zealand that I run are £650 for a week. In fact I am all about trying to come up with new destinations that are affordable. Iceland and salmon fishing in general is expensive and probably always will be.

Regards
Mat

Although its a beautiful location, Icelands prices have ruled it out as a destination for salmon fishing.

£70 for two pizzas and a bottle of wine doesn't exactly seem inviting either. (thats based on a non-fishing friends experience).

Some very hot women there though.

The alcohol is expensive, due to high taxation, but everything else is fine. If your on a fishing trip, chances are you won't be eating in expensive restaurants anyway, so just stock up on plenty duty free.

Although that fishing may sound expensive, how does it compare to prime salmon fishing in the uk?

Hi Davie,

We do a range of hosted lowland rivers and camp out trips into the backcountry in NZ. The £650 trip includes car hire for a week, 7 nights accommodation at trout cottage, 2 days guided, 2 days unguided, 2 days fishing with Simon Chu who hosts these trips and a food hamper. We provide advice on where to fish for the unguided days. Maximum group size is 4 anglers and we can pair up single anglers.

I am just putting our 2008/09 summer hosted trip packages/pricing together. I will be down there for the month of Feb and providing campout and hosted trips. Each week of February we will be fishing a different region of the South Island so it is a great way to see the diversity of fly fishing on offer. From sea trout to spring creeks, backcountry, lakes and lowland rivers.

PM or email me for more info.

Regards
Mat
