Default Last minute Mayfly on the Anton - 1 & 2 June

Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd June
2 last minute rods available on the River Anton due to cancellation
175 (usually from 195) per rod or 300 (usually from 375) for the beat
Trevor reports last weekend was as good as he has ever seen the mayfly!

call me a eejit but, the fish and fly article linked suggests that the beat is for trout and grayling... surely it's not in season for grayling on the 1st and 2nd June?

I may be being pedantic, but thought I'd raise it so you can amend if needed.

I had originally made a sarcastic comment here about what a bargain £175 for a single day's fishing was. I decided to remove it because I didn't want to offend anyone with the good sense to pay that kind of money for fishing.

No call me an eejit! Good catch Malcolm and thanks for letting me know. Could have been worded better certainly. I'll get it amended to avoid any confusion.

or at least it is if you want a bit of exclusivity in this case I guess! Not in my price range either Mike but as you infer, there are those out there who can and do afford this type of fishing.

I was lucky enough to fish a private beat on the Kennet and I have also fished the Test in winter for Grayling thanks to Hughie O'Reilley.

I have to say, if I could afford it, I would certainly pay that kind of money to fish those sort of rivers but if I had the money it would be just like paying out thirty odd quid to fish a good still water.

My friend with the beat on the Kennet is very wealthy, self made and fishing is his passion.

Sorry guys - was just in a bit of a mood. I'm sure there are those who can pay for it and would consider it well worth the money.

I wasn't "humpy" Mike.

The difficult bit is for folks like us to get our heads round the fact that ten or even a hundred quid to those sort of people is like a pound to us

It's a different world. When I fished the Kennet the other guys were discussing their next trips to Patagonia and Alaska!!!!

They can afford to spend on fishing, we can afford to spend the time - which is more pleasurable?

I agree with the sentiments you have expressed on this thread Mike. I think that "people who can afford it" are lazy. They assume that many of these waters that they pay stupid money for, are the best. In many many cases, they aren't. They are dull and featureless mobile stockponds. Give me a nice bit of freestone anyday of the week. More character and to be honest I reckon much better fishing.
