I fished with Gary recently and not only is he a gent and great company but also very good at getting you over feeding fish. We had 8 fish to the boat on a difficult day. His boat is both comfotable, safe and stable.
Would recommend unreservedly.

Hi Cromie, you would have done well to fish every pike lough in Ireland. I'd guess there are more pike loughs in Ireland than your age in days!

I noticed Ron Thompson are doing a complete starter kit for around 130 or 140 euro. It might be even cheaper as its a few months since I saw it in the tackle shop. My friend bought it and i took a few casts and there's nothing whats so ever wrong with it, ideal in fact for starting after pike. You got a 3 piece rod (? maybe 4), reel, backing,wf 9wt,box and a few flies.
Ron Thompson make cheap gear which puts guys off but I bought a 30gram spinning rod and to date its landed 31lbpike, 6lb trout and an 8lb salmon. Both the pike and salmon were unintentional. Also got a few macks and pollack on it, small pollack mind. So if your interested have a look around for them

I had a good time on lough Enre when i stayed in Inish Beg Coattages, It was a very nice place.

Here is a report i typed up,

Well i am just back from my trip. I stayed in Inish Beg Cottages lakeside of lough Enre. The scenery was lovely and the cottage was also really nice. My family and I had a great time and we also brought our dog, who injoyed it as much as we did. It was only two hour drive away from where we lived, We stoped at the garage and i bought a ff&ff magazine which kept me tuned on the way. When we arrived the place was very quiet and peaceful, Loads of space. We all unpacked the car and got some food and then got on wet suits on, The weather was terrible , It rained three days in a row non stop. We finally got out in the boat and the fresh air hit or faces. We did some trauling for pike with big shadraps but no luck. We also brought our fish finder with us and the deepest part we came across was 38-41ft deep. Loads of fish where showing on fish finder but i think they were bream or trout, There was no pike But i was more into doing some fly fishing. The wind was terrible too, but so what, it didn't bother me. I paid some money to rent the boat and the engine for 3 days. I got some fly fishing done but i never had any sinking line to get down to the depth where the fish where. I also had to use the snake roll cast because the wind was so bad but i still injoyed myself. Everyone had a good time and the cottages are well worth it, I stayed at Inish Beg cottages and you couldn't fins better than that. On the first day there was no fish caught, too windy and it was more like a blizzard.
Second day, No fish caught and i forgot to say there was loads of green algae, This could of been the main reason why no fish where being caught.
On the third day we decieded to go and do some dead baiting (pike fishing) some where else so, The night before we went to the lake, We choped up some makeral, herring and lamprey and threw them out in the water. We prebaited the lake so we could of had a better chance to catch a better fish. Well the lake was only twenty minutes away from the cottage and there was only one pike caught at 2lbs, Took one of my brothers lures as soon as it hit the water, Fry was also dying because of the algae in the water. Fishing was terrible but i still learned something and the hospitality was brilliant.

We also had some funny moments, Well we had to drive the car a little to get the waters edge to get the engine to the boat, Well on the way back from fishing in the boat my brother accidently crashed the car into a big rock, He gave me and my da a sore neck but it was funny, I was pissing myself laughing but my da was raging because the front of the car was quite screwed up.

My sister who is BLONDE, We took her out in the boat and we let her drive in. Guess what she nearly killed us, She lit up a fag beside the engine and when she was turning the boat she held the fag close to the engine, If anything caught fire we were ****ed. Second of all she also forgot to open the air cap in the engine which cause's the petrol to dry up quickly and can aslo cause the engine to explode.

I also jumped off the boat trying to make it onto the grass and the boat went backwards as i jumped and sadly i never made it, I landed in the water and luckily it was only 3 feet of water We had a nice big fire to dry our clothes.

We all had a wonderful time and every moment was laughter
I am telling you now, That place is well worth a visit. Make sure you go at the right time for good fishing weather.
Here is some pictures of the place.
