Default Strange algae

In my small troutwater today are two or three strange looking 'clumps' of an algae the colour and form of which can best be described as floating bluey-green mop-heads, the filaments of which resemble the strings of the mop. This is not a surface bloom such as is usually referred to in news articles of the blue-green algae 'scare' type. Has anyone any idea what this may be or know if I should do anything about it?

Hi Richard

Don't think I've seen anything like what you are describing. Can you take a photo and post it, so we can have a look and try to help?

Best wishes
Mike
