hi andy , firstly welcome to the forum secondly as highlighted above in bold the kit will work no problem its whether you can work the kit , a casting lesson would be in order if you have never cast fly rod/lines before ??, a 5/6 will do you for rivers and small stillwaters,if you can, try before you buy andy to see what suits you as to casting etc....

Hi Andy
Welcome from another relative new-comer. Its good to see someone else from Wales - I'm in Usk myself.

I only recently started and certainly benefited from an excellent days instruction - I still have loads to learn of course but it did give me the confidence to go out and get started.

hi guys and thank you for the welcome as it happens while i was out the other day i was coming out of a shop and noticed a fly rod strapped to a car roof so i was a bit cheeky and just started to talk to the bloke while we were talking i asked him if he could recomend anyone that did lessons he didnt but he did try to teach me a little bit while he was waiting for his wife and he also offered to take me out and teach me propperly so on my next day off i will be going out with this total tranger lol. while iam typing even though iam on a bit of a tight buget is there any make that i should stear clear from because i have sean fly rod sets on ebay for as little as £17.00 but i have read that alot of the parts are plastic and brake easaly or would i be better biding my time and buying my kit seperately and paying a bit more for better quolaty sorry to be a pest but iam totaly new to fly fishing and if iam going to do it i would rather get it right thanks

Hi Andy, if you're on a budget you'll do a lot worse than a Shakespeare Odyssey rod. Great little rod for £30!
