The plan seems to be get them feeding on dog biscuits then send out a fly shaped like a dog biccy made from trimmed deer hair. May or may not be a little late to get them feeding on the surface, not sure.

Much the same as most fishing mate, you have to watch the water for fish, if you find some feeding off the top, dog biscuits are used, use the wind ie pult the biscuits up wind so you dont scare the fish then let the wind push em over the fish, dont be too hasty to cast you dog biscuit fly/foam in, let the carp get going on them first, then have a go, i use a 10" 8# and they tow you around the lake, great fun, just remember not to high stick your rod and have plenty of backing on. Had some great results and fun doing this with carp to near 20lb

Throw out a bread crust and fish a cats whisker works well closeby. I sometimes though catch them on gold head pheasant tails and all sorts of different flies. They will even take size 20 CDCs olives dry.

Trouble with fly fishing for them is that quite often they will take the fly right down and can prove fatal getting the fly back. not ideal when you have a 10lb fish worth £60-£100 that you won't want to eat.

When using gold heads on a coarse lake though expect to catch pike too, so if you go to too small a rod you may have some trouble landing them. you really need a 7wt minimum or cannot control them, carp or pike.

I fly fish a mixed lake of my own where I never managed to get all the coarse fish out before stocking with trout. The roach on very light 3wt are fun though, also on CD20s.

Default Dog biscuit

Forgive my ignorance, I've never coarse fished, and I've never had a dog, what exactly do you mean by dog biscuit ??

Pedigree chum mixer is popular. It is small and roundish and floats. Carp take em off the surface. Your deer hair imitation trimmed to look the same also floats and fools them into thinking...

For carp fishing a hook is attached by various methods-super glue being one.

I've mentioned it before on here. Try a klinkhammer, you'd be surprised how many takes you get without bothering with dog biscuits. I'm quite surprised about the deep hooking described in a previous response as it's never happened to me in many hundreds of carp-fly captures as the surface takes are very easy to detect and the fly is usually on the lip or just inside the mouth. Having said that, I suppose it could happen if you're fishing sunken flies where bites are not as easy to spot so make sure you're carrying effective disgorgers.

I would avoid fishing more than two flies on a cast if large carp are present. Once was enough for me when I got a double hook up!
