Default Cash prize for Fewston tips

Good morning my fellow trouting bretheren. I'm off to Fewston Reservoir (Yorkshire) tomorrow, bank fishing for the 1st time, and for the best suggestions to help me catch, I am willing to donate a shiney shilling to a charity of your choice, or alternatively, I will drink to your good health with an extra beer tonight....the choice is yours.
I want to travel light, so do I take my 10ft no8 or my 9ft no7? What lines.. floating, intermediate, sinking??? best flies, best spots etc. All tips gratefully received.
Also is there a cafe/bogs nearby?

Personally never bother with Fewston....... mainly because when i've made enquiries to fish in the past they have not been polite enough to reply..... however did fish it once quite a while back as it's only 20 mins away.

Wouldn't be able to help with key areas....... but an intermediate and cat should take a fish.

I fish Fewston and its neighbour Swinsty fairly regularly. The car park is between the two and has toilets. THe majority of anglers head straight for Fewston as its closer but I would urge you to try both. I never use anything other than a floating line and seem to catch my fair share. A 9ft #7 is perfectly adequate. Cats and Dawsons olives in particular work throughout the year. I get a lot of mine on the dry fly as well - shuttlecock emerger patterns.

Fishing seems to me to be best before 10am and after 3pm; not sure why, but it might be something to do with the release of water into the reservoir.

Tightlines!!

Default Fewston

From the lodge go across the road and down to the first bay, I always wade out around 15-20 yards to the drop off, dependant on water level of course. Try to get out past the outflow and towards the dam, Cortland Blue and a Dawsons Olive and I guarantee you'll catch. Watch the perch too, my net trails in the water and sometimes has 3 or 4 of the little bleeders in it.

Donations to cancer research please.

Andy
