Default Switching fly lines

Evening All

Any tips on switching from say a floating line to an intermediate during a session?

There must be an easier way than removing leader winding in rethreading through the eyes etc.............

Cheers

Wind your fly line until the loop is at the reel ,undo blood knot ,change reel, Retie blood knot and pull leader through. Got that from hywel morgan show.

Hi Fazzer,

There is an easier way depending on the lenght of your cast. If you wind in your cast bringing the top dropper fly as far as the top eye you can then disconnect the cast and tie it onto the new flyline and when you pull the cast it will bring the flyline through the eyes.

Wind the leader through the rings until the knot is at the reel, cut the leader at the knot, put new line on reel, tie to leader, pull the end of the leader and the new fly line up through the rings, job done. This only possible if there are not any droppers in the way.

Even if you have to cut off the top dropper fly,but comp anglers try to make the flyline to top dropper about 10' thus making it very easy to change spools/lines.

Thanks Guys

You wouldn't belive the farting around that the father-in-law and I get up to in a boat.

I reckon that we must have spent 25% of our time last weekend changing lines and dealing with wind knots etc....

Tell you what I find impressive. They way that Mr Morgan ties his flies on. Takes me 5 times as long with my sausage fingers and I've never been able to bite through fishing line.

Try the Davy Knot for your flies, it was designed for sausage fingers.

A related question.

I find adding a dropper a real pain given that I may be fishing with two flies already (I use a three turn water knot).

Is there an alternative knot that does not require me to shred my finger tips with a size 10 nymph?

Cheers

I agree with Whitegoatie the davy knot makes things a little easier and imho it is a stronger knot than most others.
As regards droppers a figure of eight knot gives me the best results and it is so easy to tie.
