I've got a 5wt 9' travel version (6 piece) and while I don't rate it as a great casting or fishing rod- feels a bit 'unwieldy' and slightly dead - it's a very useful size of rod to leave in the suitcase for any fishing opportunities that present themselves on my travels.
I can't speak for any of the other sizes and weights but I know that they have had pretty good press on this forum an are available at 50% off at quite a few dealers at the moment.
As always, recommend you try before you buy.

Andy

I have a 10' #7 and a 9' #5 and they are brilliant rods. Very light, build quality is excellent and the casting performance if just great. The 9' mght just be better. And at their current sale prices they are a steal in my opinion

Hope this helps

Thanks they do seem to be a steal, the GRXi gets favourable comments from what Iv read and the G-Tec is the top of the range so should be quite a rod, problem is I cant find a local dealer who stocks the rod so trying it is the problem, Im just a bit wary of them being half price..end of range, or hard to shift?

have to agree with jonathan, very lifeless feeling rod (might not suit my casting style) so please don't take this as a slur at greys, I use the XD and it's a fantastic peice of kit

End of range I would say, along with the Streamflex, massive discounts going around.

Could it be that the travel rod has a different feel and action to the normal version? I dont have a travel rod so i dont know if the action is normally sacrificed.

Good rods, I have 4 of them. 9 5w for light and small still water work, 9 6w for larger waters and windy conditions (my most used rod), 9.6 7w for large waters/reservoirs when I also take a 9.6 7w travel rod as back up. The travel rod is slightly heavier and has a slightly softer action. These rods are middle to tip action, fast recovery great for casting a fair line out. I use mine with weight foreward lines.
I use the streamflex for river work with double tapered lines.
