Default Newbie needing advice on a river rod

Hi
I will be learning to fly fish on a river first!
Now I know that the instructor will advise on what rods I should be looking at. However just out of interest what type of rods should I be looking at?
I'm aiming to spend upto £200 for a rod.
Thanks Mark

Welcome to the forum. You should get a rod between 6' and 11' (or 15' for salmon) and between #1 and #5 (up to #11 for salmon).

Or give us a clue as to where you fish and if you have a preference to the style of fishing and we will help you narrow it down.

Hi Mark, and welcome. Here's a nice river rod, assuming you are not fishing the Spey, for salmon with it.
Orvis T3, classic bit of kit, and 8.5ft #4 just the job.

snowbee diamond rods are excellent river rods ,and you may pick up the older 3 piece model for a real bargain ,i have the 10ft 4# and its brilliant for me ..and thats the key if you can try before you buy as all rods wont suit everybodys style of casting or otherwise.....

Start with an 8 and 1/2 ft #4 or #5.
What suits one may not suit another so try a few first if you can.

It really doesn't matter which rod you buy - you'll end up with a few................

have a look at garryevans.co.uk as he sells complete sets ups with line rods and reels most makes and some are pretty good deals.

Also he will load the lines and backing for you free of charge to save you the hassle.

John Norris have a sale on the Shakespeare Trion range which are excellent no nonsence high performance rods. Despite the low price these rods offer unrivalled value for money.

They are also adding one of their Pro 2 no memory floating lines free whcih means you are getting the rod and line at almost a third of the full RRP
