Default STUDS, for Wading Boots? Wanted

I know this question has come up before; but not for quite a while.

Can anyone tell me where to buy the best quality Wading Boot Studs, at a bargain price £???? I've used some good quality studs that cost too £much; and they didn't last any longer than the cheaper ones! I use my wading boots on a trek to the stream, so the studs do wear out quite quickly!

Would be grateful for some help in purchasing some bargain studs that last a while!

Thanks

Mostyn

As you know Mostyn, I now have the new Dynatracks with the Tungsten studs prefitted, they are outstanding for grip, in both the river and on the grass etc, and this time the soles are staying put.
But I wouldn't like to walk on tarmac in them for any distance, fortunately in the places I fish this is ok as I can park within close proximity to the water.
If you are walking serious amounts prior to fishing on the stream, would it not benefit you to buy a cheap pair of oversize trainers, that you can change out of when you reach said stream, and hide in a bush until your return journey.?

Good idea Steven!

But I'm vain; and have to look the part when walking through the local park on way to the streams! I'd probably forget the trainers anyhow; and leave them in the bushes!

Mostyn,
There was an advertisement for 'Supatracks' on here earlier in the week. I have used them on both the Simms G4 and the Patagonia boots (the latter weren't as successful due to the softness of the sole but I am working on a solution).
Now these studs are also used for placing into tyres for ice so they have a different anchoring system.
I am impressed and they should not wear like the normal screw in studs.
Look here ww.supatrack.com and you need a set of the 3000A studs.

Default More (as in cost) is not necessarily better.

One of the standard re-studding bits we do here in the US is to go to a 'hardware store' (place you'd buy tools, screws, nut/bolt, etc.) and get yourself a hand full (you'll need at least a couple of dozen) of 1/4 "sheet metal screws. You'll want at least a 1//4 of threads below (3/8" is better/1/2" is over kill) **to screw into the felt (assumption here) on the bottom of your boot.

Next you just look up your boot (or one of the same size) and make a drawing of where 'they' put their studs. You'll do the same with a 1/4" hand ratchet driver or one on the end of an electric drill (the EASY way of doing same!!). Only thing to be careful is you've got the drill/ratchet straight up/down when you screw in the SM screw.

It really is that easy.

Argument time: Toss up between folks as to get the steel ones or the far softer aluminum ones. The former will last longer, but the softer aluminum gives you FAR better grip on slimy rock/weedie bottoms. Now here's the good part: A set of Simm's studs will cost $29.95 USD ... the sheet metal screws .... 3 to 5 cents each or, if you will, a tad over a Dollar.

Trust me on this one, this is the way 90% of PNW'ers do a new application or 're-fit,' and it works just fine.

fred

Edit: ** If your boot bottoms have a lot of ware, take them with you so you know how deep a threading you can get away with. Far into the felt as reasonable, but obviously not far enough to penetrate the bottom of the in-sole.
