Unhappy twisting cast/leader ???

I've tied up some nice hoppers and dabblers creations of my own which are similar but not exactly the same as Davie McPhails tyings on YouTube, so today I tried some of them out along with a new spool of Hardly co poly 6lb cast, for an hour or so everything went well I landed one fish and rise a few more but then it happened ~ I noticed that my casts were tangling up and spinning around it'self !? I used a cast length of about 13ft on my 10ft GXD and I tried on one floating fly, I stretched the cast, I put fullers earth on it and still it twisted ~~ wtf is going on ?

Bushy flies can be a bit of a pain, try using a tapered leader and dt line to help presentation.

Repeately casting large hackle dry flies will eventually twist your cast. I have found if I step up the size of tippet it helps prevent it occuring quite as often. If you can try using 8lb tippet and see if things improve.

Hi
Your flies are acting like propellors and spinning in the air, thus twisting the leader.
As stated use a tapered leader and go thicker/heavier on the tippet

Cheers

Steve

lads Thanks for the valuable advice, is this something to do with the way I've tied my flies ? I've never came across this before ! I think I'll try moving up to an 8lb cast in double strength Drennon and see what happens tomorrow.

Probably nothing to do with yer flies mate floating frys and big sugarcube shipamns all do the same thing more than likey be leader set up so go as suggested thicker nylon, tapered leader ,dt lines, or even shorten yer leader length as a last resort!

Yeah I like to use a Long leader, usually about 12ft on a 9ft 6" rod or 15ft on a 10ft rod so that could be my problem the flies I'm using are only size 10/12's max but well dressed, I've tied some new daddies and beetles for tomorrow so I'll experiment with the cast length to see what happens.

Try deciding the fly size by 3 and then using that x as the tippet , so if the fly is a 12 use a 4x, this should help.
