Default What difference would a 7wt line make on a 7/8wt rod

My old fly line is ****ed the super glue from a new braided loop I put on got onto a point about half way down the belly of the line and ended up sticking it to the table it was siting on. Clumsy me just pulls the line not realising it was stuck until a large chunk of hi vis orange fly line was left in the middle of the table.

So am think of getting a fly line and while casting my uncles rod thought the stiffer action of the rod was much better when I was casting, so he sugggested I try a lighter line on the rod but wondering how it would affect casting especially in windy conditions.

Thanks
AL

The line is correct for the rod, dont know where your confusion lies??
A heavier sinking line will cast better into a wind.
You might find that a floater losses some of the advantage due to it being thicker and more wind resistant.
Over to the experts.

I would say the change would be somewhere between barely noticeable to perhaps even a slight improvement in windy conditions. The wind isn't going to push the smaller line around that much more than it would the #8, but there might be a small advantage in having the underlined rod performing like it had a faster action.

Of course, this comes with the standard assumption that you know how to cast and can adjust your casting stroke to take advantage of what will now feel like a somewhat faster rod action. I wouldn't overplay this point, though, because one line weight is not a lot of difference in the scope of things. It won't turn a moderate action into something that feels like a fast action.

Buy a cheap WF and give it a try.

maybe a slight dissadvantage in the wind as using a lighter rated line will probably mean you will need to aerielise more line to load the rod, giving the wind more to catch.
