Default Braided loops?

I have been using shop bought braided loops for connecting my fly line to
the mono leader.
While river dry fly fishing last week I noticed that this connection was
sinking, so I started to treat it with an approved line floater.
This worked OK until later when I also decided to give the fly line an
additional wipe to clean off some scum, resulting in the whole braided
connection coming off.
This happened to me last year while playing a fish up my local pond.
I wasn't upset about loosing the fish, it was the thought of it dragging the
leader with 3 flies around.
I am now not confident in the braided loop system so I have changed the
connection to a needle knot on my river outfit and I think I should do the
same with all my lines.
Your feed back and advice would be appreciated.

Dreadful things. Stopped using them years ago. For a while I made my own loops by stripping the line coating off and using the core to form a loop, reinforced by a "sleeve" of 30lb braided backing. For presentation, though, I now prefer a nail or needle knotted butt of thick mono with a Moser ring attached, to which I then tie my leader. Yet to be let down by it.

The only loops i now use are Roman Moser Mini Cons.
I do away with the sleeve and whip the loop on with multi strand tying thread.
Then i put the tiniest smear of Bug Bond on the thread to seal.
Roman Moser Mini cons are superb and nice and small.

Have been using braided loops for 15 years, initially shop bought but now make my own. Great piece of tackle. Never had one come loose when playing a fish or when cleaning the line.

To make my own I use braided backing line and Airflo silicone tube and have never bothered with superglue. The only modification to the standard braided loop is to use two silicone tubes. The second goes over where the fly line butts into the middle piece of the braid at the point where the two (line and braid) meet. This minimises "hingeing" between and braid and hence wear on the line.

I echo the post on Roman Moser Minicon Braided Loops, excellent bits of kit.

if making your own loops leave the inner wall of the braid (the end fed in to create the loop) longer than the outer, then you cannot have the actual loop fail as both ends are whipped on.

Make my own braided loops keeping the length quite short and the loop small and i seal with aquasure flexible awder type glue 24hrs before use and no problems, clip on fly line cleaner and treat maybe twice a year

Roman Moser mini-con's and Roman moser glue. Never had one fail and I use these for salt water fishing as well in the salmon size. If they can withstand the lunges of a decent pollack then you should have no fear using them for trout.

Default Nightmare

Once this happens it is in your head.I too like the moser minicons.Majority of my lines have furled leaders attached in various formats to suit.I join these to the flyline using Castwell's Knot(Google) which when jiggled to keep the tag end tight and snugged up does not hinge,is tiny and goes through the guides no problem. It has never failed me trout fishing.Wear and tear is good and should easily last a season.I have tried other types of off the shelf braided loops but other than the mosers they do not suit me for various reasons.Castwell's is certainly the KISS principle and it works for me on coated lines.Mono tips like Ghost tips and others I use a different method.
