Default How many women and children fly fish in the UK?

I am doing a little research on the fly fishing market and trying to find out how many women and children fly fish in the UK.......

I have written to the EA but they don't seem to know as they can only give figures on licences bought in any one year which is coarse and game combined. Children under 12 years old don't need a licence.

Any help would be appreciated...

I know it is a difficult one but someone out there may have done this exercise before.

Many thanks in advance,

D.

I would imagine the figures are quite small.
Clubs I am/were involved in would have female adult members of around less than 1%
Kids maybe,10% approx.
Not very scientific sorry.

You may want to try a Poll on here. Something along the lines of "Of all the Anglers you know, what % are Women and Children" . Not very accurate as it will depend on how many people the individual angler knows..

It's better than guessing and I'm sure you'll get some comical responses.

When SUBSTANCE complete and publish their research, you will find very accurate figures:

Have you tried emailing Lucy Bowden?

She is the founder of Flyfishingforeveryone a ladies fishing club. She is a great champion of lady and children's anglers everywhere, so might be more with it stats wise as she has an interest in it.

surely this is where you start? then try to establish what percentage fly fish as opposed to othe methods.

if you take a quick survey of the forum you will see a percentage also, if you were specific it would be easier, for example, if you wanted information for marketing then you would start elsewhere.

My grayling days suggest I get one a year so thats 70 folks and one in 70 ,the numbers are low this last couple of years .
Facilities for powdering the ladies nose are one of the reasons I beleive many of the fair sex dont join in,if my ladies need to sit down in any comfort its a trip into hungerford at the garage, been thinking about trying to do a ladies day and hire a top range portaloo but that bangs up the cost big time .
My boy Hugh ,turns beer /pub legal tommorow has been an occaisional fisher since age 7,not good with the single hander but not half bad with the doublehander (thanks Mick Bell for that afternoon on the thames) There are fewer kids on the bankside these days ,parents fear of kiddy fiddlers and other things like computer games ,excessive homework and study ,peer pressure and being cool all conspire against kids joining in .
Some of us here are a bit of a turn off , sometimes during school hols we get kids coming on ,and asking loads of Questions ,are we encouraging ,sometimes no !

You can count me as one just turned 15 a few weeks back so you can add another to your list.
