Default The elusive Black flash damsel

Hi all

I was fishing at Albury Lakes at Vale end on Saturday in the smaller lake. Given the hot weather the fish were quite sleepy and not biting - that is until I moved from a Blue flash damsel to a similar looking fly except it was black with a couple of silver streaks in the tail - I immediately started getting bites and caught a nice 3.5Ib fish - I then managed to lose the fly in a tree - v frustrating! am trying to but something similar on-line but can't find anything. so 2 questions:

does anyone know what the fly is called (black flash damsel according to bailiff)

and does anyone know where I can get another one! (can't remember where and when I bought the 1st one)

I took the same fly into a tackle shop close to me and asked the owner to find it for me, he couldn't! The only place I've found the Black blue flash damsel is in Albury Game Fishing shop. It's in Albury and the entrance is around the back, drive into the pub car park and you'll find it.

Default Black Flash Damsel

If Tony, the head baliff at Albury is about, he usually has some for sale, not cheap (about £1.25 if I remember rightly), but they certainly work down there OK.

Alol the best

I hate the BFD or black version , its one of those flies you wish they banned as no matter how good or bad a fisherman you are you will catch on it, if you look at the catch reports , its BFD< BFD<BFD I know you want to get yer monies worth out of put and take waters but theres a point when fishing becomes pointless,no skill needed and you might aswell just buy a big net, however i do use a black/olive gh wooly, and black/olive gh damsel + woolies with alittle fash init on my cr water, these arnt BFD,s and in know way out perform other flies

Snagit

you say that but as yet in 6 fishing trips I have done since taking up the sport I have yet to catch a single fish on a bfd. - black woolie yes and on a cats whisker but nothing on a bfd.

so you will forgive me if I disagree with you. more over for us beginners it is nice to catch a fish once in a while!

Well said, its your choice what you use and we all need to catch a fish or two when we are starting out, otherwise it can be very disheartening. There will be a time when you want different ways of doing the same thing (ask Mr Rooney), but till that time, stick with what you are happy with.

Not so long ago I never imagined bagging up anywhere, well I have done now on more than one occasion and have reached the stage where I dont want half a dozen fish, one will do for starters and anything else is a bonus. If I can get one on something I have not tried before that, to me, is more satisfying, but there was a time when I would have gladly tossed a hand grenade into the lake just to see if anything was in it!

All the best
