Default Thrybergh Reservoir.

Has anyone fished Thrybergh Reservoir on a regular basis, if so, what are your opinions on the venue.

The fishery owner at Wharncliffe Reservoir is talking of turning it over to coarse fishing next season and I need to find a local alternative.

Thrybergh is very nice, a lovely park ideal for a day out for the family, fly fishing is another matter, IMHO, two many folk around, difficult to cast, I would pay it another visit, but not to fly fish, a lovely day out.......

I was a season ticket holder at Thrybergh for 3 years and had a wonderful time there.

I never fished there at weekends, but even with a few people walking around I never had a problem. Just look behind you before you cast and cut down your false casts to no more than 3.

I fished it for a couple of hours at the end of July. It was a Friday afternoon, quite a few walkers around but not a real problem. I managed one fish (1.5 lbs) and missed a few, my brother in law blanked. Pleasant enough fishery for a council run affair. Locals I spoke to were friendly and chatty.

Women in the shop asked for our fishing licences before we bought our tickets (only place I have seen this)

Thyberg isn't the place for your next season ticket - if you fish Thryberg on any sunny weekend you'll see what the problem is there (people!)

Kind regards

I'll keep you informed.

I spoke to Ron, only yesterday, but trying to get a straight answer from him, of his intentions, is impossible. The fishing seems to be in a downward spiral. He complains of losing money so he doesn't stock regularly. People struggle to catch so they stay away - Ron loses more money.

It's a pity really because a nicer spot you couldn't wish to find.

I used to be a member there, it's ok if you can fish early mornings mid week but its bad at weekends, loads of walkers & dogs running all over, watch out for bikers too.

There was a problem with a certain member who hovered around anyone who was catching fish but I believe he left

As much as I dislike float tubes they are the best way to fish Thrybergh

I wont be back

Oh dear! It doesn't sound promising, I even used to avoid Ladybower at weekends for those very same reasons

From what I've heard from quite a few who have tried to fish Wharncliffe Reservoir, is that they can't get day tickets & can't get down to look at the reservoir as the gate is always locked.

I don't know how true it is, but if it is the case could the owners offer better access & signs to those who want day tickets to fly fish? after all they're going to have to do the same to advertise coarse fishing.

As for Thryburgh could you not get a day ticket & give it a try, also the chap (the Buzzard) who hovered around hot spots talking & being a general pain in the @rse until he forced someone to move out, he did leave a few years ago

The gate at Wharncliffe is locked because it is private - they don't issue day tickets. However, if you contact Ron Ogle, his number is on the
Wharncliffe Fly Fishery website, I'm sure he will issue you with a day ticket for £15. You can also fish as a guest of a member - for £15.

It is a C&R water and is lightly stocked. Fishing can, at times, be difficult.
