how do i fish a shipmans buzzer? is the fly meant to sink or be sitting right on top of the water or partially submerged?

thanks in advance for any replys.

It's meant to sit in the surface, add a floatant (Gink etc) to the 'breathers', the white appendages.

I fished a small stillwater on Monday gone, and fished a small Orange Shipmans, ginked on the surface, on the point and a orange Epoxy Buzzer with Breathers 6ft back on a 7 inch dropper and between the two, I came away having hooked and landed 7 very nice 1.5lb to 2lb Rainbows.
My first time out fly fishing too and never picked up a fly rod combo in my life before, so I don't think that was too bad really.

is that the breathers at both ends of the fly so the body sits under the surface?

Had a great nights fishing last using one well ginked up and rterieved back with a moderate speed figure of eight. Also caught while drinking my coffee stopped retrieving and it sank down and got me a nice fish.

Bob, as LH says, add floatant to the breathers at both ends. Try not to get any floatant on the body of the buzzer. This lets the body sit in the surface film, with the breathers above the surface.

Back in the day when I did a lot of competition fishing I used to tie two versions. The "pulling" version on a Drennan Wet Fly Supreme size 12 - no longer available unfortunately - and a "dry" version on a size 12 emerger hook. Both were tied with Tom Saville's Fiery Brown seals fur which is the best I have come across and both worked extremely well according to what the fish were doing on a particular day.

As mentioned by others, fish it in the surface film. But if it sinks, fish it back wet as you would any other buzzer and it will still take fish.
