Default South Lakes, High Newton, Knotallow Tarn

Off to stay in Ulverston this weekend and intending to fish High Newton and Knotallow Tarn. I know they are both good top of the water venues, which is why i am going. Any recent info that may help will be very welcome!
Been tying flies for this visit every evening for 2 weeks!

Jonathan, i didn't fish High Newton after all. After a reccy soon after i arrived at Ulverston, Knotallow was alone with no anglers, plenty of daddies flying about, and some encouraging rises. Newton had 5 -6 anglers on it looking quite serious. Spoke to one who was just leaving, said it was bad, maybe over fished. I didn't like the aura of grimness anyway. Also Newton is mainly rainbows, and Knotallow is all browns!

So i fished Knotallow on the Sunday........ had plenty of offers, hooked 7, landed 3 on hopper and daddy. Very windy!
Monday gave it another go because i liked the venue and the fish. Again, several offers, hooked 5 landed 3. Two on muddler sedge, 1 on black pennel dropper. Very, very windy!

To be honest, if i visited the area again, i would still fish Knotallow rather than High Newton. It is more like a natural tarn/hill loch, all brownies, whereas Newton, picturesque as it is, is like an enclosed basin, mainly rainbows. Also, the few lads that came and went at Knotallow were friendly and helpful.
