Default Electronic Midge Repellent

Can anyone tell me if these devices work ! I have tried Jungle Juice, Avon products, none seem to work for me ? I am highly sceptical of these new'ish electronic products, don't know exactly how they work.
Any feedback would be appreciated, (unless you are the landlocked pirate who lives near Arnfield).

Hi growlerf

I don't think there are any electronic repellents against midges?

I could be wrong

They sell them for mosquitos though!

This is how they work:-

Biting mossies are pregnant females and the thing they hate the most is......randy males
These devices make the sound of randy males! get the picture?

I've got an iPhone app that repels midges, seems to work for me.

Unless you buy' Expedition strength' Jungle formula which has deet in it,then don't bother, as far as Avon SSS.you might as well throw the bottle at them.
Get Ben's 100.

I'm led to believe that Jim aka Grizzlygrayling is friends with all the creatures of the wilderness. He simply asks them not to bite him.

Of course that bear he travels with probably detracts any mozzies from his person.

Various iterations of these electronic repellers have been on the market for years and at one time I remember seeing them included in a magazine test of insect repellent effectiveness.

While at least one of them did repell mosquitos when put in a glass box filled with mozzies and midges, then problem was range. They seemed to only repell midges that were a few inches away. So as a practical matter, they didn't work in a way that would be useful to anyone.

We have a lot of mozzies and black flies here in the tropical tundra of Minnesota. I've tried a lot of repellents including the much trumpeted Skinsosoft, which was completely useless.

I keep coming back to two that I know work: Muskol and Deep Woods Off. Yes they have deet, that's what makes them work. I have found nothing that works better than these two and they are widely available.

Thanks 3lbGrayling. Nipped into Boots in Bakewell this afternoon and purchased a bottle of their own brand insect repellent, read all the ingredients of all the brands, boots own brand is 50% Deet.
Fished this evening, midges everywhere, no bites.

Just back from the Outer Hebrides, and the midges were bad.

I tried using a pair of my wife tights over my head and that seemed to work...must have been the smell.
