Default Granddads Antique Fly fishing collection

Hello all!

Firstly, let me start by saying I'm NOT trying to sell these items I am purely after a valuation, so please don't delete it!

I have absolutely no idea about fly fishing, however my granddad was a big fly fisherman.
He died about 15 years ago, and left behind quite a few Hardy reels, and other types of reels, along with a large variety of rods.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I went fly fishing for the very first time last year, and took the stuff along so I didn't have to hire a rod/reel etc, only to be told that my granddads stuff was worth quite a bit of money, and I shouldn't use it.

Since then, its been left on the side, but I really would like to know how much the reels are all worth! Here is a list I made:

Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5500C

British Leeda

Hardy Marquis Salmon No.1

Hardy "The Lightweight"

Hardy "The Lightweight" (Another one)

Hardy The Perfect Fly Reel

Hardy "The Princess" (2 of these)

Hardy "The Uniqua"

Magnum 200D

Rimfly II

Anyway, any rough ideas?

Thanks all!

As above pics would make it easier, however roughly:

Marquis 100-140

Princess 80-130

Lightweight 120-140

Uniqua 90-200

Perfect 200-8000

Everything depends on age and condition. There is a book called 'The Dunkeld Collection' by Jess Miller should find a copy at amazon books. All answers regarding your Hardy reels should be there inc prices. The other reels you mention are not highly valuable so you can use them. As mentioned above really need more detail to give an accurate valuation, sizes and condition are the most important indicators of price in this market. Put some pics up...Hth.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Pictures attached as Word documents. If you can't view them, i'll upload them later as JPEG.

Can't measure the perfect right now as I don't have a ruler!

Thanks again

Hi Alex, no need for any measuring. If you look on the back of the Hardy reels the size will be stamped on them. I can not see the Perfect well enough, bit fuzzy, but it looks quite modern and very clean. Might put it somewhere safe to keep it looking good.
The others look well used which is normal.
I would use any of the others. When people say don't use they mean don't if it's totally unmarked-mint. Hey, these reels were made to use and so what if there is some paint loss, those reels will work perfectly for many many years to come.
I have a Perfect and a Princess, one is mint and the other close to it. I thought about wrapping them in cotton wool but only one life and they will still be around when I am not so I use them. Only thing is be careful when fishing where you lay them down to change a fly or unhook a fish-put em on grass-not gravel.

Alex use them and enjoy them.

Looks to me your gramp started with a Rimfly like many of us did and worked his way up to the Perfect. The Marquis shows he delved in a little salmon fishing and the Abu would probably have been his salmon spinning reel. Nice bit of history there .

Good luck-Chris.
