John,

I assume your considering clothing for winter fishing Brrr frosty mornings !

Merino wool socks? A Must. Also - Long Johns or thermal lined cotton trousers, I also wear some seal skin socks over the normal socks, a thermal long sleeve T,shirt with shell jacket : Tight fitting; but with some room for movement and casting! If the shell is too bulky? your wading jacket wont fit over the top! Thin layers is far better than thick heavy clothing! Get a hat for your head and a pair of finger-less gloves. SORTED.

But, Neoprene Waders would help solve many chilly problems.

Good thermal socks are a must , wicking is important ,dont go near cotton its chilling if even just damp.
These days in winter its Under armour fro the rugby shop with breathable over trousers ,if reaaly cold i have a set of silk long johns which are the ancient and faintly pinky grey ,but are superb ,think you can still find them in Motorcycle shops ,mine came from Orvis many moons ago !
Lots of thin layers are much better than thick ones .
Again I stress no cotton ,its nearly given me hypothermia whilst falling in early autumn!

Fleece pants in the winter, thermals for spring and autumn.

Like others have said, socks are important, I have to say I feel my feet get cold before anything else, so nice thick wool socks should be top of the list.

Stay away from cotton as it actually cools you when it gets wet. Stick with wool, polypro and fleece and you should be good.

Thermal Long Johns or Hardy Fleece pants. Armour Pro or whatever its called from a sports shop, thermal t shirt, thin thermal fleece top with normal zip fleece over that. No messing around ! Cant remember what socks I wear, but i know i have oversized boots to accomodate them!

Cotton? I agree - stay away from it; But, if you find a pair of cotton "THERMAL LINED TROUSERS" then you wont go wrong! try putting a really thick pair of thermal trousers on, then try to fit in to your waders; it's difficult, also taking them off! Thin layers is always the best way to go!

Merino wool Socks are a must!
