Check out this site

Somerset Fishing Venues | Fly Fishing in Somerset | Coarse Fishing in Somerset |

You will need to scroll through to find the trout fisheries mixed in amongst the coarse fisheries.

Default cheque book at nailsea

make sure u got your cheque book if u at nailsea,

Barrows tanks a bit down the road in the evenings is pretty good if u want to improve your skills. The regulars are very helpful and you will be a better fisherman for going. U will get a few blanks but once u catch there, its totally different to what i call a regular stocky venue....

And if u decide after fishing barrows that its not for u and u end up back at a stocky water you will need a bigger cheque book with all the trout you will have caught.

There are others around,i.e. Camely + Knowle Anglers have some small lakes as well as plenty of brook/river fishing. When you get a chance, nip into Veal's & see Steve or Dave f.f.i. (you can get 2 hours free in the carpark, just ask them to stamp your ticket !

If you're interested in fly tying, then contact me via p.m. for info on the local branch of the The FDG (of which I'm the local founder/pres.) We have a coach going to the BFFI on Sat & do an all-in ticket with 2 pick-up points, Barrow Tanks & Filton.

I think it maybe the size of the tanks that worries me (as i am a newby). Jacklands does seem a little over priced up to other places but the chances of catching are very easy (but is that fishing).

Don't be put off by the size of the water, most fish are caught within close range. The advantage of the Barrows is the opportunity to move according to the conditions, without worrying about your casting ability, which will improve no end.
Somewhere like Camely will cost you £25 for fishing three ponds, whereas a day ticket at the Tanks is £13.50 for 8 of the best fighting, and tasting, fish you will find anywhere, or you can catch and release.

It's not always easy, but that wouldn't be fishing would it? There's always a chance of one of these.

Do the barrows have very high sides, I only ask as my landing net may not be long enough.

There are banks where a long-handled net is needed, if the water is high, but don't let that put you off. There are plenty of places where you can fish at the waters edge. I carry a smallish telescopic.

Even if you are on a high bank, you can always find somewhere to land the fish, or one of the locals to help you do it.
