Poor Begger!
I leave my life jacket in the car boot far too often.

Nowhere have I seen it mentioned that he was not wearing any buoyancy aids. Perhaps the speed in which he was swept a reported 6 miles downstream suggests he was? Could we please leave any speculation until after the inquest.

My condolences to the Richardson family on their tragic loss.

I did not mean to infer that he was not wearing a life saver (although you could interpret my post that way), I was only pointing out that we should ALL wear life savers when fishing (more so in running water). No matter how well you know the beat / riverbank, etc. A good friend of mine used to be a part time ghillie on the Cassley, one day a bit of the bank gave way under him and he was swept away luckily he was rescued 3 miles downstream - battered and bruised but alive.

Exactly, only this year i slipped and fell in only shin deep water at the lip of a heavy rapid. the water was shallow, but very fast and i could easily have gone over the edge had my ghillie very quickly not grabbed my shoulder straps.
