Durham County Anglers Action Group inaugural meeting.

Having arrived at the venue, we were informed that the club knew nothing about the event.
It was subsequently established that the wrong venue had been publicised and we were directed to the correct venue a few minutes drive away.

Ben Thompson from the Angling development board introduced himself and several other people who represent the various organisations involved.

There were 6 or 7 angling clubs represented, plus representatives from the tackle trade and press and a guest speaker from Northumberland who had set up his own club with the support of the Northumberland CAAG.

Ben then went on to explain his role as a member of the Angling Development Board and the relationship with Angling trust and the County Sports Partnership.

He then explained the structure of the existing CAAG’s in Northumberland and Tyne & Wear and the intention to progress to the Tees Valley early next year.

Ben then outlined the scope of the support from the ADB with opportunities for coaching development and funding for equipment and the creation or development of facilities.

To sum up, there is a wealth of support and equally importantly, advice, on developing and dealing with the interest of the youngsters that are to become the future for angling.

It was agreed that there was sufficient interest to arrange a second meeting to discuss the formation of the Durham CAAG, to appoint officials etc. This will take place late in October/early November at Dragonville in Durham.

Extract from the Journal Live :- 'This Monday sees a great opportunity for the coarse anglers of County Durham, as The Angling Development Board and Durham Sports Partnership launch the Durham County Angling Action Group.

Anyone interested in becoming involved should attend the inaugural meeting at Easington Colliery Club & Institute LTD, Seaside Lane, Easington Colliery, 7-9pm. Anyone attending the meeting should contact Ben Thompson at ben.thompson@anglingdevelopmentboard.org.uk or by phone on 07854240177'

It would appear Ian WOODS from Game Fishing Supplies Morpeth & supporter of this forum is chairman of Northumberland County Angling Action Group and may be a good source of information.
