Question Making a DT in to a WF

I have just been given an old 9# rod with a 9# floating double taper line on it.

I have had a cast with the rod, and it feels odd casting with a douple taper.

The line is very long so loosing some it it wouldnt matter.

Could i cut the line just before the thickest point to make it in to a Wieght Forward ?

Thanks

A double taper is just what its name suggests, so the line is in effect reversible. If you cut the line in half and join what was the middle to your backing you have a 'shooting head'.

With so many modern Weight Forward lines around at quite a low price I wonder if it is worth the effort. I suggest you PM Pitsford Pirate about his deal on Shakespeare Worcester lines.

You could begin by cutting the line in half. This would give you two single tapered lines of between 13 and 15 yards long. You could then attach a thin running line to the cut end. Test the single tapered line out on the water. Find the length of line which loads the rod best - for a number nine line on a number nine rod, this will probably be around ten yards, excluding the front taper. Shorten the line to your chosen length and attach the running line again, making the joint between line and backing (running line) as smooth as possible. What you will have made is generally known as a shooting head, a customised weight forward line.

Yes you could "cut and shut". I have done it myself to make two lines out of one for my baby #4. But as Alan says it's hardly worth the effort these days.............go on treat yourself to a decent line, they aint that expensive these days. birdsnest
