Angry Real problems tying dropper knots

I just started fishing & fly tying again after a decade off, and now I don't remember how to tie droppers.

I found it easly before and can tie a half blood knot for single flies, but now I'm really starting to get p***** off! I've been searching youtube and google, but have only come across knots I in no way remember tying.

I'm going fishing tomorrow to a loch and was wanting to get a team of flies on the go - this does not look likely now!

Do any of you know an easy way of tying droppers?

Water knot. Hold the leader and dropper together, form a loop, pull the dropper and leader tails through the loop twice, lubricate with spit and pull tight.

Thumbs up Brilliant thanks

That's the knot I had always used, I overlooked it a few times while searching as it wasn't being displayed as a dropper knot.

Thanks a lot!

Go for a water knot - two turns is just as good as three and quicker/easier to tie (3 turns are shown in the video).

I'll also have a look for a really simple figure of eight knot that I've seen Gwilym Hughes use. Foolproof and quick to tie.....

Depends where, what and how you are fishing. I generally fish a 16' leader with either 1 dropper at 8', or 2 droppers, one 6' from the fly line and the 2nd about 4' or 5' from the first dropper. I make my droppers 6" to 8" long.

Here you go - had to do the photos for it coz I couldn't find it on the internet....

Overlap your main leader (orange) and your tippet section (yellow) by roughly the length you want for your dropper (have the tippet length to your right):

Now throw an overhand loop so that the tippet length (to the right) and your dropper leg sit on top of the other two strands

Shove two fingers up from beneath the loop so they are pointing up at the sky....

...then rotate them anticlockwise until they point at the ground
Click the image to open in full size.

Keep rotating them until they point up at the sky again (i.e. do one full turn)
Click the image to open in full size.

Now catch hold of the tippet length and the dropper leg with the same two fingers (use your thumb on the same hand to help):

Then pull both tag ends (the tippet length and the dropper leg) through the loop:

Before you snug it down tight it should look like this (if it doesn't you've f@cked it up - undo and try again)

Wet the knot and hold all four tag ends and pull tight. Snip off the leg which points back up towards the fly line (yellow) and keep the leg which points down towards your point fly (orange) to use for the dropper:

Simply pimply (you can buy me a pint when you see me and join the WTT whenever you like)

I AGREE!
Use the same knot all the time, but with three tucks, but to take the time to photo and post each move, deserves a round of beer, if not applause!
regards
