Default Rod Holster

Don't know about anyone else but I have been running into a problem in the river. Not a major one but an annoyance none the less. When sorting out leaders or changing flies in the middle of a stretch of river the question of where to put my rod has come up everytime. Usually it's tucked under my arm, between my legs or into my vest. It worked but man can it be awkward.

While racking my brain about something to help I came across a Tidi Car Bin that I bought but never used a few months ago (the car is a mess btw).

It was from a poundshop so I'll let you guess the price

Anyway it's basically a spring up cylinder 8" high and 6.5" dia. With a little adjustment from a sewing needle and a patch of cloth I made a belt attachment for my wading belt as the elastic loop allows to much movement (an old cloth belt I used to wear on my jeans )

The spring within it adds rigidety and I can slot my reel and rod butt easily into it freeing up my hands to do what I need. Works with both my 7ft and 10ft rods, also triples up as a line tray and waste basket for under the vice! Not bad for £1.

Well that's my solitary idea for the year so I hope someone else might find it useful.

Take a look at these and surely will take the problem away when fishing the rivers.

What is it? Breast implants to create a useful shelf to keep things on?

Most jackets/vests these days have a built in rod holder.
Usually a loop of material at the bottom of the vest, with a piece of velcro at the top.
Just pop the rod butt into the loop, and clip the velcro around the upper part of the rod, and hey presto, both hands free.
Can't remember the last time I saw a vest without one.

Must check mine. It's a truefly wycwood vest. Can't be bothered checking tonight though as my vest is in the car. One of "those days" at work has sapped my want to live. Be grand in the morning after a kip.

Still the £1 vice bin come line tray come holster is working pretty well
