dont buy on recommendations as their rod wont necessarily suit you , always try before you buy if you can

Snowbee Diamond might fit the bill.

i think greys rods are more mas produced than most other rods

also i dont like the Greys warranty i i had reason to use it on a match rod ,
for not much more money, i could have bought a new rod,
,,why cant they say ,if its found to be faulty we will change it free, but if you break it then spares are available

So you want a rod that doesn't have its origins in the Far East? Greys are no more 'mass produced' than any other in their price range. Sage? Mass produced. Orvis? Mass produced. Virtually all rods are to some extent mass produced.

Get onto Sparton ,he will make you a 9 ft #5 on harrison blanks ,very reasnably priced ,and you can talk through the fittings with him .
years ago I had a similar rod made for me by Geoffrey Rivaz ,that went onto catch chalkstream fish ,grilse and seatrout, rainbows on small ponds and Rutland, and a shed load of grayling ,
recently reringed will be out for next years mayfly if not before !

A 9ft 5wt rod is a good all round rod for both river and small stillwaters. The quality of rod is down to your budget.
Zenith rods are superb quality and performance for approx £250 built to your requirements.

Cheers Diarmid.

Here is the cat amongst the pidgeons!
Best rod for stillwater, bank and boat, medium to large rivers, trout, sea trout, and salmon, saltwater fishing (pollack, mullet, bass, etc in this country, bones permit mid size tarpon and tuna abroad) has to be a sage rpl+ 9' 6" #7 wt 4 piece in steel tube (for travelling!)
cant get them new, but you will pick one up on e-bay for £150 upwards.
If in good nick is definately the one stop shop rod!
regards
bert
