Default Rain, is it just for ducks?

Hi All

I'm three weeks into my first ever trout river fishing season. I fish the Derwent in Co. Durham and from what I've seen (through pictures on the 'net) the water is quite low at the moment.

Over the last 24hrs we've had quite a bit of rain and I was wondering what effect this will have for fishing over the next day or so?

I know serious amounts of rain is not good, the water turning coffee coloured, swell that'd put a cornish surfer of etc - but is that the case for all rivers with fresh rain water in them?

Really appreciate your thoughts on this, the rain seems to have scuppered our camping trip to Whitby, so I'm looking to get some time in on the Derwent instead

S

Wimp, Steven It's not camping unless you are up to your ears in mud and your sleeping bag is damp and you're risking disaster by cooking inside the Tent!!

Can't help with your rivers but if the ground is finally saturated you will be coloured up by Run Off, unless you're on a chalk stream which are sublimely unaffected by such mundane things.

I'm afraid the whole camping thing is new and it's a fine balance (for me anyway, my wife is one of these outdoor walking types who likes to camp up the side of a mountain) between going camping or chucking the whole lot in and finding a nice B&B!

Now I'm home for the weekend, and have Mon & Tues off next week I'll see if I can sneak an early evening season in, perhaps take the family out of for the day tomorrow and 'accidentally' drive by the river for a recce
